Rail-mounted shelving systems were initially popularized by Scandinavian cabinet makers in the early 1930s. Soon after, many architects and designers released their own takes that would become fixtures of the mid-century modern movement. Kim Richardt’s Shelf Library System, developed for FRAMA and initially released in 2016, is a refined interpretation of this tradition with its own design language. An infinitely modular system that lends itself to any space.

I was worried about the assembly, but the rail-mounted system actually went up much smoother than I expected. The warm white steel feels durable and has a clean look that fits perfectly with my mid-century decor.

I’ve had this shelf for a few weeks now, and the rail-mounted system was surprisingly easy to install—everything clicked into place. The dimensions at H108.4 / W40 fit perfectly in my narrow hallway without sticking out.

Put this together in our reading nook and the warm white steel finish gives it that mid-century feel I was hoping for. The rails make it easy to adjust the shelves without any tools, which saved me a lot of headache during setup. It's exactly the right height for a stack of my favorite hardcovers.
